Word of the Week

WOW! What a great day we had yesterday at the Back to School Fair! It is awesome to see the community come together and work alongside one another to accomplish such a great task! It is hard to believe that another school year is upon us. Teachers are already spendng time at the schools preparing for another year, and families and students are enjoying that last minute get away or trip to Six Flags or the water park! I am excited about school starting from the aspect of getting back into a routine. Summer is exciting in the life of the church but it seems like we are all scattered around and I miss seeing people during the summer months! It has been a great summer, but I am convinced the coming school year is going to be even better!

Word of the Week

I am so proud of our church! I know I say that on a regular basis but this morning is going to be a celebration of the faithfulness of this church to the call to missions. Over the summer we had 88 people serving on the mission field both at home and overseas! I am asked often about the purpose of doing a mission trip. I believe the benefits of short term mission trips are numerous but to me two things are a huge bi-product. First, you work together with people and you get to know them better. There is something about serving alongside others that draws you closer. Second, for some reason we are more bold in our faith and service away from our comfort zones. We hopefully form habits on the field we bring back home to make a difference in our communities. We have that opportunity this coming Saturday!! The Annual Back to School Fair is this coming Saturday at the elementary school from 9am-1pm. I hope you will come and help out as we do missions in our own backyard! Have a great week!

Word of the Week

Have you been hearing little pieces about this trip or that trip that has taken place within our church this summer? Have you wondered what Mark and Lauren Ducommun have been doing to prepare for the mission field? If you have, then I have some really good news for you! Next Sunday morning during our worship time together we are going to be hearing from several people who have been involved in overseas trips, the Tour Across America, the Mini-Mission Trip, and the trip from Kingsville, Missouri.

I hope you will make plans to be here to hear and see what God has done through our church family!

Have a great week!

Word of the Week

I am excited about everyone being together for worship this morning! (Oh wait, I am not here!) Back in January when we had our staff retreat, we set this day aside for everyone to be together to worship. We brought in people to lead so the staff could join in along with everyone else to simply have a special time of worship. I pray that as Scott Willingham preaches the Word and Cole Risner leads worship it is a truly meaningful and challenging time for all of you. May today be a great day at FBC Grandview.

Please keep the mission team in Kingsville, Missouri in your prayers this week.

See ya next Sunday!

FBC Grandview is perhaps as spread out as it has ever been! This morning we have folks in St. Louis, Missouri, Collins, Missouri, and Grandview, Texas worshipping the same God! How awesome is that? Later this afternoon as the group of us from Collins head home, two charter buses loaded with children will be heading to children’s camp at Latham Springs! Will you join me in praying for the safety of the groups traveling this week and for people come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ all over the place this week? Please make Brian Burgess feel welcome here this morning. I know you will be blessed by the Word God has placed on his heart! I hope you have a great week!

Word of the Week

We have already seen a few of our people head out into the mission field this summer. Misty Mayes and Trey and Blake Johnson have been overseas serving. This week we will be sending a large number into the fields. We will have 57 students and adults heading to Collins and St. Louis, Missouri, then on to Cincinnati, Ohio to do inner city ministry from July 12th to the 19th. There will be 12 others staying in Collins, Missouri to do ministry work alongside Coon Creek Baptist Church. I am excited about what God is going to do through His body this week. I ask that you be in prayer for the two groups, their traveling safety, and the opportunities to share the love of Jesus in the areas we will be serving. I hope you have a great week!

Word of the Week

Amazing Wonders Aviation Bible School has been a phenomenal week! We don’t have official historical numbers, but most people believe it was one of the highest attended Bible School we have ever had here at FBC!!! Dorothy did a great job organizing and the teachers and helpers an awesome job working together to pull off a highly successful week! We averaged about 220 people throughout the week and saw 6 children give their lives to Jesus!! That is not only making a difference, it is making an eternal difference! Thank you to all who physically participated and to those who prayed and encouraged throughout the week! Now it is time to turn the prayer attention toward Next Level Kid’s Camp, the mini mission trip to Collins, Missouri, the Youth Tour Across America and the churchwide mission trip to Kingsville, Missouri. July is going to be a great month! I hope you have a great week!

“Are We There Yet?”

As a parent when you hear the words, “Are we there yet?”, you have probably just left the city limits and have embarked on a jour-ney of at least 15 minutes!!! My response to my children is usually, “It depends on where there is!!” As the calendar rolls over to July, I feel like the question, “Are we there yet?”, will be our church’s mot-to! We are finishing another incredibly successful Vacation Bible School with lots of kids being involved! Well done, Dorothy, and all of your merry little helpers! I write my article this month not only as an informative article but also as a prayer request list! The first item to be prayed for is the Tour Across America and the mini mission trip. Both groups will pull out for Collins, Missouri early on July 12th. That evening we will be feeding the community of Collins from our cook trailer and having a time of worship for the adults and activities for the children. Friday morning we will all be doing acts of kindness and serving in the community. The youth will load their chartered bus and head for St. Louis that afternoon to do ministry there for a couple of days in the inner city. Those left behind in Collins will continue to love on the community until after wor-ship on Sunday morning, and then they will all head home. The students will ultimately arrive in Cincinnati, Ohio to visit the Creation Museum before begin-ning their journey back home. Please pray for safety for the groups. Pray for the people we will be encountering who don’t know Jesus -- that they will see Christ in us and realize their need for Him. Pray for those from our church that we will be emboldened to stand for Christ when we return home. On Sunday afternoon, July 15th, 100 students and adults will load two charter buses to head for children’s camp at Latham Springs. You read that right . . . 100!!!! I cannot wait to see what God is going to do in this group as they have times of Bible study, worship and lots of fun. Pray for the children that don’t already have a relationship with Jesus to be saved!! Pray for those who know Him to be challenged to go deeper and be bold in their stand for Him! On July 21st early in the morning a large group will begin their journey to Kingsville, Missouri to assist in installing drywall and pos-sibly some framing on the main level of a new building for ministry. It is always exciting to help other churches prepare for future minis-try when we go on these trips. I believe it also helps us realize how blessed we are as a church family with the facilities we have here in Grandview. Pray for travel safety for the group. Pray for the minis-try we will be doing in the community. Pray for safety on the job site each day! The month of July has the potential of really being a great month for the Kingdom of God. Many of you will be involved in the activities physically, but if you are not just know your prayers are and will be an encouragement to everyone involved. Let’s pray that the answer to the question “Are we there yet?” when it comes to salvation for many at the end of the month will be YES . . . because of Jesus, you are there!

Tonight we will be boarding the Amazing Wonders Aviation for an incredible journey through God’s Word with our children at Vacation Bible School. This is one of the most exciting and physically tiring weeks in the life of our church. We will be privileged to watch amazing things happen as our kids come closer to God than ever before. See lives changed as our kids tour the wonders of God's creation and explore His awesome power. I hope you will be inviting children from all around to come enjoy the journey with us as well praying for the teachers, children and volunteers this week. If you don’t have anything else to do and want to be a blessing to children come board the plane. Family night will be Thursday evening from 6-8:30 and we could use people to welcome our guests and make them feel at home! I hope you have a great week!

Word of the Week

Summer is in full swing! Many people are already taking vacations and making plans for their vacation. I have said it before, summer is a great time in the life of the church. There are so many activities going on that you could possibly be doing something church related everyday! The difficulty of summer is often times when people travel they not only miss worship, but they miss being faithful in their giving. Summer is the busiest and most expensive time in the life of the church, and so I want to challenge you to be faithful in your giving through the summer months! God is working among us. My prayer is we will be faithful in return! I hope you have a great week!

Word of the Week

Summer has finally arrived!! As you are aware by now, Preston and I are at Super Summer preparing for the students to arrive in the morning. Super Summer is a phenomenal week of leadership training for our students. Please take some time each day this week and pray for Preston and Sarah Cave, Nancy Peabody, Katie Block, Travis Mitchell, Makala Fussell, Mia Peabody, Tristan Peabody, Julie Tull, Melissa Tull, Carly Harris, Abbie Rogan, Kourtney Cummings, Kasi Cummings and myself. Pray that God would challenge us all and give us the strength to hold up during a week filled with long hours. I hope you have a great week!

Word of the Week

When I think of sacrifice I have two thoughts usually come to mind. First, is the sacrifice of our men and women who have fought and in many cases given their lives for the freedom we have in America. Our pause on one day a year to remember is obviously not enough, but today we do just that. We say, “THANK YOU” as we remember the sacrifice made. The second sacrifice is the one of Jesus Christ. It is not enough to say, “Thank You,” we have a responsibility to tell others of the sacrifice and the love Christ has for them. So today as we worship we will take time to say, “Thank You” to our service men and women but ultimately to remember the greatest sacrifice made by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I hope you have a great week!

What an awesome day it is!!! We will be celebrating some very significant life moments today with our church family. First we have several coming for baptism this morning. What an awesome time for these people, their families and us as a church family!! Lord, give us just one more . . . and then one more . . . ! We are also excited about the accomplishments of our graduates. This year we have a large number of graduates and we are proud of them all! Among us today are not just scholars of books, but they are about to clear a major hurdle in life. Seniors, we congratulate you and look forward to the difference you will make in our world! Keep your eyes on Him! I hope you have a great week!

Word of the Week

I saw this and just couldn’t help it . . . I had to share!

She cooked the breakfast first of all,
Washed the cups and plates.
Dressed the children and made sure
Stockings all were mates.
Combed their hair and made their beds,
Sent them out to play;
Gathered up their motley toys,
Put some books away.
Dusted chairs and mopped the stairs,
Ironed an hour or two;
Baked a jar of cookies and a pie,
Then made a pot of stew.
The telephone rang constantly,
The doorbell did the same;
A youngster fell and stubbed his toe
And then the laundry came.
She picked up blocks and mended socks,
Then she polished up the stove;
And when her husband came at six
He said, “I envy you!
It must be nice to sit at home
Without a thing to do!”

Happy Mother’s Day, Moms!

What a privilege it has been to have TEAM IMPACT with us this weekend. From the school assemblies to the evening activities we have seen some amazing feats performed in human strength. I have found myself thinking about the availability of spiritual strength that we too often let slide by in our daily lives. We have oooohed and ahhhhed over bars bending and bricks being broken but how much greater is our GOD?!!! I pray we unleash the POWER of the Holy Spirit beginning today as we leave this place. Invite someone to come back tonight and hear the Gospel of Jesus shared. What else do you have to do??? Come on . . . unleash the POWER!

Praying for the harvest today, tonight and tomorrow,

Today is a HUGE day! There are a whole lot of important things going on!!! I hope you are ready to roll! First of all I want to welcome the Zebra Strings this morning. I am excited about them being here to help lead us in worship. This program is outstanding and I am so proud of the students involved. A huge thank you to Vicki Nichols and Amy Quisenberry as well as the parents for getting the students here.

Beginning today at 11:00 until 2:00 the Back to School Fair Committee is hosting a BBQ sandwich lunch and silent auction at the new elementary school. This is a great event for our community and needs our financial support. I hope you will make an effort to go, eat and financially support this program!

During the Sunday School hour we will be having LIFE coach training for the Team Impact event coming this weekend. If you missed out and want to be a coach make sure you see Preston or myself ASAP!

I hope today turns out amazingly well!

Word of the Week

We are two weeks away from what I believe will be an unbelievable weekend for the Kingdom of God and our church. Team Impact will be here May 4-6 at 7:00 each evening. We could do this event and at the end say, “neat, some people got saved!” or we can do the event and help the people who get saved begin their journey with Christ the right way! My prayer is we do the latter. We will need help if we are going to accomplish this goal. We first must be praying for lost people and inviting lost people to come to the events. Then we need LIFE coaches to be ready to invest in and pour into the new believers. We will be having a special training time next Sunday morning during the Sunday School hour to help you become a good LIFE coach. I hope you will seriously consider and pray about being a LIFE coach and being a vital part in a new believer’s journey of faith! Keep praying for the event!!

Word of the Week

This morning we will be having a called church conference at the conclusion of both services to address the sound system issues we have been having and hear a recommendation from the Property Committee concerning the solution. From the time we finished the renovation of the Sanctuary five years ago, we have had problems with the sound, from minor to what have become pretty major.

Many people have taken time to hear from a couple of different companies and listened to ideas on what needs to be done. We have decided to go with Better Sound Company. The cost will be $19,800.00. We have the money to fix the system in special funds but I think this is a great opportunity for us as a church to show God’s faithfulness. I am challenging us as a church to have a special time of giving, above and beyond our tithe next Sunday, to see what God can do! I ask you to be praying about what He would have your part be.

I hope you have a great week!

Word of the Week

Happy Easter!! What an awesome day to celebrate the Resurrection!! Without the Resurrection we have no reason to gather here today, but because of the Resurrection we have a great responsibility before us! Jesus left us with the challenge to “Go and make disciples.” This can be a daunting task for some believers. Some are afraid to share Christ because they are afraid of confrontation or rejection.

One of the “L’s” of our church’s mission is to LEAD… we are going to give you an opportunity to LEAD May 4-6. We will be hosting TEAM IMPACT each evening at 7:00 here at FBC. This is an awesome opportunity to invite a lost friend, family member or co-worker to hear about Christ in a non-threatening environment! More details will be forthcoming.

I am glad you are here today!

The "L's" have been laid out! What a great job Preston did last week sharing with you about Launch! I have to tell you it was an amazing thing for me to be "launched" into Collins, Missouri this past week. It was such a privilege to be able to share the Word of God and now so many of you were back home praying . . . and it showed. We now have 7 new brothers and sisters in Christ as a result of my "liftoff"! I pray as we become obedient to Love, Lead, Liberate and Launch others and ourselves, we well see the Lord of the Harvest be very pleased with us!

Happy April Fool's Day!

He Is Risen!!!

Two years ago when Shelly and I had the privilege of traveling to the Holy Land, there were a few things that really stood out to me about the trip. The Sea of Galilee was absolutely amazing and to see the land forms around the body of water and hear the explanation of how storms form quickly has allowed the scripture to jump off the pages for me. The Garden of Gethsemane was perhaps the most emotional place we visited. I remember very clearly looking up the hill towards the city gates and gazing over my shoulder into the wilderness and realizing the sacrifice Jesus made. In the moment when the soldiers were coming to get Jesus all he had to do was take off the other way and they probably never would have found him. Then there was the Garden Tomb. I really was looking forward to the tomb before and during the trip, but I must admit it really was not impressive to me. The main reason is no one is really for sure that is the tomb where Jesus was laid. The significant part of the tomb for me was that it was empty. It really doesn’t matter if that is Jesus’ tomb or not. The important thing is that it was empty!!! HE IS RISEN!

As the calendar rolls over to Easter, we move on from the “L’s” vision series into Holy Week activities. I have been so encouraged by your response to LOVE, LEAD, LIBERATE, and LAUNCH. I hope you continue to pray about what part of the vision God would have you to invest in. Remember vision is “‘what is’ compared to ‘what could be’”. We must do what God called us to so that can be accomplished. We move on from the sermon series, but we must not move on from the vision and purpose to which God has called us.

Love: We are called to LOVE the unbeliever into the Kingdom of God by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ because God LOVED us first.

Liberate: We are called to LIBERATE the believer and unbeliever from worldly bondage by the power of the Word of God and with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Lead: We are called to LEAD the believer and unbeliever into a dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ through training and discipleship of the truths found in God's Word.

Launch: We are called to LAUNCH discipled believers into the world to continue bringing the message of the Gospel to unbelievers.

I hope many of you have taken the 1:1:1 challenge. It is almost time to see what God will do with your efforts. Remember I challenged you to pray for 1 person, 1 time a day, at 1 pm and then invite them to Resurrection Sunday services! I can’t wait. How about you?

On that note let me remind you about the first two Sundays of April. April 1st is Palm Sunday. We will have lots of “new” things to enjoy that day as well as a great time of worship leading up to Easter Sunday. Then on the 8th we will celebrate the risen Savior on Easter morning. We will have the 8:30 worship, brunch at 9:00, Easter Egg Hunt at 10:00, followed by WORSHIP at 10:30!! NOTICE THE TIME CHANGE! In years past there was a lag between the brunch/Easter Egg hunt and the contemporary worship, so as a staff we decided to move worship up 30 minutes and also allow families to get out of church a bit earlier to enjoy the day together! Make sure to take full advantage of all the Holy Week activities as we celebrate the fact that HE IS RISEN!!!
